The calls to the 0161 number are costing me almost ten times as much as calls to an 0845 number, so I'll really have to get myself a network card if there's no prospect.

I have drawn a blank on making changes to the 0845 number. There is a modification to the TiVo software in test at the moment which could provide a solution but I'm having difficulty getting that sufficiently reliable to be worth releasing. I haven't given up completely yet but there's no short term prospect of any progress in this area.

Thanks, DX30.

I noticed the 08451112111 number in the server statistics, but I thought I'd read somewhere that it couldn't be used for downloading the EPG any more. It only seems to get about one call a week.

I'll give it a try though.

Thanks. millsb.

I really appreciate your efforts.

I should have bought and installed a network card a while ago. This could be the motivation that I need!

Possibly that may have been referring to unmodified TiVo's. I also have a vague memory that 08451112111 doesn't have a server timeout so if the call hangs you could end up with a big bill, so be careful if you use it unattended.

Edit:
With the AltEPG 1.0d image use dial config code 1 or 2 for the 08451112111 number.

My TiVo is unmodified, but I'll give it a shot, anyway.

I'll make sure that I carefully supervise it when it calls!

I think it will not work. The 08450800300 and 01612329094 numbers have been set up specially to deal with TiVo calls. They divert requests from unmodified tivos so that they are sent to the altepg server rather than the old TiVo server. The 08451112111 number is a general internet dialup number which has not been customised in that way.

Sorry if this not the right place for this, but was there a down period on the 0161 number on Tuesday morning? My TiVo got repeated "Line unavailable" errors, which I took to be trouble at my end, but without changing anything, a daily call worked fine that evening.

EDIT: Should have said, did all the normal checks for a line problem, but everything was OK.

You don't need to use the AltEPG image but you will at a minimum need to do some modification as detailed in the link I posted earlier viewtopic.php?f=16&t=669

I realise if you have never modified a TiVo before this can be daunting but if you want to do it there are tools you can download that will allow you to transfer the TiVo drive to a PC and make the required modifications.
