Ok I have searched the net for days now and can not find any software to convert the ty files I have copies across to my computer
downloaded the Tystudio software but it wont install on my win7 machine
any one know of a converter from TY files to avi or mpg so I can save to dvd
as I keep hitting a brick wall with what I think is the usa version and get ts files software

It depends what exact problem you have with installing tyStudio.

Bundled with tyStudio is Tydemux.exe which is a stand-alone demultiplexer that requires no installation, just copy it to the same folder as the ty file.

Open a Command Prompt. Change directoy to the folder with the exe and tyfile.
If the tyfile is called something.ty then do this:

tydemux -s 2 -i something.ty -a something.m2a -v something.m2v

This produces two files, a audio-only file and a video-only file.

It also spits out quite a lot of messages. Near the end it says:
A/V Sync Offset: 0ms (The -O option is not needed in mplex)

If that value is non-zero then you we need it when multiplexing to avoid lipsync issues.

Now you just need an MPEG-2 multiplexer program (I use TMPGEnc but that has to be paid for) to combine both streams back into one.

Hmm, using Tystudio was the old process.

Tytool (NB: not "Tytools" :) ) allows you to go all the way from ty to a DVD-ready vob, with frame-accurate cutting and the audio transcoded from tivo's 32kHz to DVD's 48kHz, all without de-muxing. It's critical that you don't de-mux (ie split the audio and video into separate files), because if you do that, you throw away all the synchronisation information permanently and risk lip-sync problems. Job done -easier and better

or if you just want an mpg you can simply right click on the "tmf" link in TivowebPlus's Now Playing screen and do the usual "Save as...". The tmf file will play in most free players (open the file in winzip and then play the individual 'parts'), or you can convert to mpeg very simply by drag and drop with tytompg.exe. tytompg does not re-encode the tmf it simply repackages it to be a mpeg file.

The files are too big to attach in their original form, so I've repacked them as split-volume archives. You need all 6 files.

First three...

As far as I know tytompg is only available from the place mentioned. Just create an account, download, and then delete your account if you want. Dont worry they won't spam you
