Amount of data in daily call

Postby bandsp » Fri Feb 01, 2019 10:37 am

I am probably going to take a TiVo when I go away in my caravan, so I will probably have to use my mobile to update the EPG.

How much data is there in a daily call?

If I were to make the call every 3 days would that save on data?

Thanks

I haven't measured it, and it depends on your configuration of line-ups etc, but I think the daily data is less than 1 MB per day.

The TiVo I plan to use has a cachecard, and the LAN connection wire .. I will be using my phone as my internet access .. I cant, of course, connect the TiVo directly to the phone, so will use it as a WiFi hub ..

I have an old TP-link box I used to use to connect the home TiVo to the router but have not succeeded in getting it to see the phone hub, (neither can I get it now to work to the router)

What would be the best way to get the phone and TiVo to talk to each other?

Most mobile phone hotspots will need WPA2-PSK (aka WPA2-Personal) or possibly the older WPA-PSK (less secure). (And probably encryption type AES.) Do you know what protocols your TP-Link box supports?

If it's supported by your phone then personally I would do a factory reset on the TP-Link and then reconfigure it from your laptop/desktop. You'll also need to know the name (SSID) you gave to your hotspot and the password of course.

After much head scratching, action repetition and possibly praying, I have now got the Tivo linked to the phone via the TPlink as you suggested, and it has downloaded ..

Thanks VM
