I've got a couple of my TiVos have a daily status email sent (for some reason one is always flagged as Phishing, but that's by-the-by) but I'm passing another to my bro-in-law and want to set that up to do the same, but can't find the setting ..

Help appreciated .. thanks

The config file will likely be at /var/hack/dailymail/dailymail.cfg

neither of my TiVos which don't report have that directory/file ..

Is it enough to copy over, or there a function somewhere that builds them?

You will need to download and install the dailymail software. You can get it from your login on the altepg.com website. You can download it to a PC/laptop and then you will need to transfer it across to your TiVo.

I have downloaded it but as yet have found no instructions for installing it .. do I simply create the folder and FTP daily mail into it ?

The home page contains this ....

Package: dailymail_altepg-2012-06-17
Description: Dailymail (AltEPG special)
Size: 128 KB
This package provides an AltEPG version of the 'dailymail' hack. Dailymail sends you an email each day which provides details on the current status of your TiVo - including:
To Do list
Expiration list
Conflicts
Rejected Recordings
Now Showing list
overall system health
The original version of Dailymail used a complex configuration file which required considerable customisation for each installation - for example you have to set up details of your email account, and construct Base-64 encoding of your email username and password.

The AltEPG version requires no customisation - you just install the package and it will run. TiVo will send your daily email to the email address you specified when you registered your TiVo. TiVo sends the email at 05:45 each morning.

This hack is only suitable for networked AltEPG TiVos. Dialup TiVos will be able to create the email but will not be able to send it.

But there is nothing about installing it ..

Yes, create a folder called /var/hack/dailymail and FTP the files into it.

Since you're not running AltEPG image then ignore the bits about no customisation, as you will need to do that yourself.

So you will then to read and customise dailymail.cfg according to your requirements and what you want it to monitor. (Or do that first before you ftp across)

If you want to run it automatically then you will need to set up 'cron' program to do that, but get the manual process running first. ;)

After you've configured it you run it with

/var/hack/dailymail/dailymail_jazz

As far as I know all three at home are running AltEPG .. (1 does the daily call and has a terabyte disk with Alt EPG bought from (AFAIR) Tivoland when TiVo pulled the plug on the original service)

The Info page of TiVoWeb, on all three, shows

TiVo Box Information
Software System: 2.5.5-01-1-023 (OzTivo 0.9.1-20110606)

How else can I check, please?

Then you should already have dailymail installed.

Code: Select all
find  /  -name  dailymail.cfg

My apologies for not replying earlier, but I've been occupied with other things ..

I have decided to give up on this for the time being, and have passed one I had with the function working to my bro-in-law instead of the originally intended box ..

I continue looking at this sometime in the future .

thanks for your interest and help ..
