Yeah I tried registering with altepg .....add a tivo......but get an error message saying Tivo already registered.

Ok, in that case log-in to your account (at altepg.com) and click on "Transfer Ownership" button

Hi Pegasus,

I can't seem to locate the button for transfer of ownership.
Can't see it anywhere. Is it something that will hinder my
ability to make a download via network connection?
Cheers

Thanks Pegasus. Your link worked although no code ever
came through to my Tivo. I am thinking the
Setup may be incorrect for the unit to make network calls.
It's a long time since I last did this process.

I have a very recent Virgin Media router and
I believe this unit is the same as my previous one.
Having a cachecard in it as silicon dust advert appears
On booting up system

Any idea of correct code I should enter for networking ?

It was worth a punt - it might have worked straight-out-the-box...oh well. :(

It depends on whether it is running AltEPG software or original TiVo software. But we are getting ahead of ourselves.

Assuming networking used to work (for the chap you got it from) then you need to find its IP address and see if you can talk to it on your home network (i.e. through your VM router).

Log-in to the VM router and look for connected devices and see if you can see an IP address which might be TiVo's. This can be tricky if it's running the original s/w as it will be a fixed IP address and your VM router might not see it.

Hi Pegasus,

I've no idea how to log into the virgin media router?

It's usually been straight forward for me to get my Tivos
Up and running. This is the only one I have had issue
With.

Previous owner said it did operate with the Altepg years
Back when they last used it.

Is there any way I can confirm the software related questions
Via the system information on the actual tivo, displayed on screen?
As my old tivo is currently not running, I would like to mimic
the network settings on it but can't check what that was.
I don't want to open the "new one" if I can avoid that

Cheers

You need to know if the TiVo is visible to your home network, and can see the internet.

I've no idea how to log into the virgin media router?

Open a browser and type 192.168.0.1 in the address bar.
Enter the Settings password printed on the back of the Hub and click Next.

Only if that TiVo is running AltEPG software, in which case the IP address will be displayed on tv screen during boot-up.

Of, if you don't want to try any diagnostics, then just try 'Make a Test Call'. But if it fails then you are back to the diagnostics.

Hi Pegasus,

Yeah test calls aren't working. I just thought there could only
be a couple of possible codes to try for the network settings.
In the past I usually got my Tivos Up and running pretty quickly.
Can I check the router situation on a mobile phone or must it be on a computer?
Will give it a go and see what comes up. Should I check before connecting tivo and then whilst it's connected to compare results?
Cheers

Hi Pegasus,
I just followed your instructions......the Tivo does not appear to be visible to my home network. Had a few attempts and gave ample time
for it to appear.
What's my next step?

P.S no sign of an IP address on boot up of Tivo either

Thanks for all the help

If you are not seeing the AltEPG "Welcome" screens during boot then it sounds like you have original TiVo software. That's a shame.

So, back to connectivity...

How have you connected the TiVo to your home network? What is plugged in to what?

And the green light is on on the VM router, where TiVo is plugged in?

Assuming your TiVo is at 192.168.0.100 we'll try and talk to it.

Open a "command" window on your PC/laptop (while it is connected to the same router as TiVo)
(Windows key -> Run -> cmd )

Type
ping -n 5 192.168.0.100

You should see something like
Pinging 192.168.0.100 with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 192.168.0.100: bytes=32 time=30ms TTL=255
...

Hi Pegasus,

OK will give that a try in a little while. I'm not sure the green
Light came on at the ethernet port on router but will also
Check this and get back to you tonight.
Is that a good sign if it does?
Cheers

Hi Pegasus,

I followed your exact instructions down to the letter.
The response I got was as follows;

Reply from 192.168.0.24: Destination host unreachable.
