Tivo Alive and well in England?

Postby datelly » Sun Oct 28, 2007 1:23 am

I live in Chicago most of the time but am a British Expat.
I have Tivo in Chicago and of course love it.

In England I have a Humax Freeview recorder. I was under the impression that Tivo was "dead" in England.

The concept of using Season Pass is foreign to Humax.

I have so many questions, not sure where to start ...

- The Tivo's I see listed to buy on tivoland - are they new or used? Do they have a warranty?
- Do you need a telephone line to get the EPG or can you use the Internet or off air?
- Does anyone know if the remote control for a Tivo box will work with a SlingPlayer?

Guess I'll wait for answers to these and go from there.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Cheers

Hi Robert,

Apologies for the delay in replying.

tivoland.com is the only supplier of units in the UK at the moment.

Our units vary from ex-demonstrators, ex-store stock, corporate boxes etc.

Often the physical Tivo themselves are little or un-used but the boxes are a bit tatty from being shipped around etc.

I re-build each Tivo to order, I replace the hard disk with a brand new higher capacity drive and test the system before shipment.

By default you use the phone line to get the epg via a Free call in the early hours, but if you order a networked system and have an internet connection, the system will automatically contact the Tivo servers through the internet instead of through dial-up.

Don't know about the remote vs sling box question I'm afraid.
